Jones Act Coverage

Boat Insurance policies provide coverage for the Jones Act. The Jones Act is a US federal statute that provides a means for crew members, who are injured as a result of negligence, to recover for damages caused by injury. It is the maritime version of workers compensation. If you employ any crew, then you should have coverage added to your policy to protect you from possible liability.

The Harbor Workers Compensation is also a federal statute that applies to non-crew members working on your boat. It provides a means for non crew members, who are injured as a result of negligence, to recover for damages caused by injury. It is the maritime version of workers' compensation.

Most boat insurance policies automatically provide coverage for the Harbor Workers' Compensation coverage. Most boat insurance companies do not automatically provide coverage for the Jones Act.
